The Future of Event Tech: Transforming Your Media Sharing and Event Hosting Experience

In the digital age, event management has come a long way from spreadsheets and handwritten guest lists. With the advent of sophisticated event tech software, planning, organizing, and capturing memories have never been easier. Among the myriad of event tech solutions available, a new player has emerged, revolutionizing the way we store, share, and cherish event photos. Enter the future of event tech: a photo storing and sharing platform with facial recognition software- Samaro. In this blog, we will explore several other event management tech platforms in the market and compare them with Samaro.

Comparing Samaro and Google Photos for Event Photo Sharing

Samaro VS Google Photos

While Google Photos is great for storing your personal photos, it is not great for sharing when you wish to collect and share photos with a larger group of people with different privacy settings across different media, for eg. in events.

Cons of Google Photos:

  • No folders : Its not possible to categorize photos in a shared Google Photos link into different folders. All photos are dumped in one link.

  • Privacy: Once a gallery is shared with a bunch of people, its not possible to selectively control privacy on media. All the media shared can be viewed by everyone.

  • No segregation between Official and Guest Photos: For important events in our life, we often hire professional photographers and there photos are considerably better, that you don’t want them to mix with phone photos by guests.

  • No Self collection of photos: Google Photos doesn’t prompt your guests to share media, you will have to remind your guests yourself many times, for them to share photos in the gallery.

  • Not suitable for Professional Photographers & Filmmakers:

  • No branding : Google Photos is a bad choice if you wish to share your work as a photographer with a client. You can’t have branding on the gallery or a hyperlink to your social media anywhere on the gallery.

  • Your client won’t share the link with others: Moreover, if you share photos through Google Photos, your client is unlikely to share it with other guests as it would contain many private images such as couple photos, photos of women & children from his family, that they wouldn’t be comfortable to share with their all guests. Sometimes, photos don’t even reach the closest relative.

  • Poor segregation between Photos & Videos: As a professional photographer and filmmaker, you would wish the videos to stand out different from each other and not get mixed into each other.

  • Manual tagging of photos: While Google photos gives facial recognition, one has to manually tag the photos with user’s email id to share it with them. If you want the guests to find their photos by clicking on the filtered faces, you will have to share a link (not great for privacy) or selectively add people by each one of their email ids (not convenient).

Advantages of Google Photos:

  • Cost of storage: Google Photos pricing is very competitive and it offers 15GB of free storage. It costs Rs 10/GB for a year on Google Photos.

  • Native mobile app for both Android and IOS along with web app.

  • Automating syncing and backing of photos from phone storage.

  • Neat and clean UI

  • Fast and responsive user experience.

  • While a number of different features are present in Google Photos, it is more of a media store software than a media sharing application. Sharing media via the Google Suite, requires a user to upload or back up their media to a Drive folder and share the link, or make an album that can be shared via Google Photos. Samaro is much more hassle free. Upload all your media to the cloud via the app or the web browser, and selectively choose pictures you want to edit access to. Make some pictures private, and share the rest with everyone at the event. The upload notification for selected media will be sent to all the users, so they can check the event pictures. Samaro allows you to set different access levels for shared media, including view-only, edit, and upload permissions. This helps control who can make changes to the media.

Furthermore, the Samaro interface supports optional facial recognition, making it your choice whether you want to face tag photos or not. You can share photos by sharing a link to the complete gallery. Anyone at an event can upload photos to the gallery. These photos are backed on the cloud, so you can remain at ease. Samaro provides a built-in media viewer, allowing you to play videos directly withing the browser app.

We are working on Samaro having a keepsakes feature, that allows you to create event memorabilia and albums for viewing long after the event is over. This would be similar to Google collage and stories on Google Photos, except it would be more dedicated and event specific, letting you reminisce with your chosen spotify playlist and selected photos.

Event Photo Management: Samaro versus AlgoShare

Samaro vs AlgoShare

Algoshare brings facial recognition galleries for event photographers so that guests can find their photos where they feature by uploading a selfie. Algomage offers good design. Their implementation is simple and efficient where it provides an online gallery with a public viewing option to show all photos or private mode where uploading a selfie filters only photos where your face features.  Algoshare is primarily made for event photographers to share their photos with their clients and guests in an event. Guest signups can be done either through the registration link pre event or QR code during the event. If photos are not already present, users have to wait for photographers to upload images. It doesn’t offer any engagement

Photographers can use the platform to monetize on images and generate leads based on their portfolios.

Algomage is more suited to desktop interfaces, or larger screens as the host of options provided to the user are not suited for a mobile view. It is generally preferred for bulk uploading images to an event. Cons:

  • No native support for videos. Only youtube and vimeo embedding.

  • One big downside of Algoshare is that it provides credentials of guests to the photographers which is a big security breach without explicitly informing the end users accessing the gallery.

  • Guests have to upload a selfie every time they wish to see their photos on a gallery.

  •  Link sharing and QR code based signups don’t offer privacy as once a guest has access to event link and passcode or QR code, he or she can share with anyone which is a security breach. No way to invite users privately.

  • Guests don’t get any control over the privacy of any photos featuring their face. Hence poor on media privacy.

  • Photo size limit restrictions in all plans. Introductory plans have 5 MB restriction on size and the highest plan has 25 MB.

  • There are no different user roles or any option to give admin access to main client. Not collaborative in nature.

  • Lacks Team collaboration and if you have a company all your teammates will have to login through same credentials.

  • Notifications when your photos are uploaded on gallery come on email. Whatsapp notification is a separate paid add on.

  • Only subscription plans as it is aimed at photographers. Not good for end users looking to host a one time event.

  • No common QR codes. For each event you will have to print a fresh QR code which is an additional expense of $15 - $25. If you do 50 events in a year the cost becomes more than the cost of subscription itself at  $750 - $1250.

  • Pricing is not public and can be different for different users. Sales team has to be contacted.

  • No team collaboration and team signups for collaborating with your team and for added layer of security.

  • Bulk Downloading of media is not instant and sends a link on email for downloading later.

  • Notifications on Whatsapp is a paid add on.

Pros for Algoshare::

  • Neat and clean UI interface.

  • AI facial recognition gallery

  • Shop cart for ordering frames and prints.

AI Facial Recognition in Event Photography: Samaro vs. Premagic

Samaro compared with premagic
Samaro vs Premagic

Premagic is also an AI facial recognition based media gallery for auto-sorting images by faces like Algomage. Premagic happens to be more costly as they have hard limits on the number of photos that can support facial recognition in the gallery. However Premagic  tries to cover some ground by providing a free but basic CRM for photographers to manage their leads. It however lacks the sophistication and feature set of dedicated sales CRMs like Freshsales and Hubspot. One distinguishing feature which many photographers like is Premagic’s digital invite feature that enables signups even before the event as some clients use Digital invite to invite their guests. While the Premagic client side UI is great, their admin side UI for photographers can be better. Overall Premagic offers very similar experience like Algomage but is overpriced.

Premagic Cons: - Facial recognition is not instant and takes time.- Expensive price and limits on facial recognition numbers on images. - Guests need to upload selfie everytime they wish to see their images. - No authentication for guests - Guests cannot mark their images private.- Guests cannot upload images and videos.- Link sharing and QR code based signups don’t offer privacy as once a guest has access to event link and passcode or QR code, he or she can share with anyone which is a security breach. No way to invite users privately. - Basic Whatsapp Bot with no image upload or guest addition capability or event reminders. - Poor on media privacy.- Only subscription plans as it is aimed at photographers.

Pros for Premagic

  • Neat and clean UI interface for client side

  • AI facial recognition gallery

  • Shop cart for ordering frames and prints.

  • Supports watermark

  • Media selection module for albums is more advanced than Algomage

  • Free CRM

  • Digital invites

  • Download control on images.

  • Folder uploads for images

  • Custom domain and branding
